FAQS

  • HOW LONG DOES EACH SESSION TAKE AND HOW OFTEN WOULD WE MEET?
Therapy sessions can range from 50 to 90 minutes, depending on availability, your goals, and the type of counseling modality. Sessions are most often 50 minutes once per week or every other week.
  • DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE? HOW MUCH DO SESSIONS COST?
I do! Beginning March 1, 2024, I'll be in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Optum (UHC, Oscar, Oxford) via Alma, a third-party billing and credentialing organization. We will verify your specific plan to confirm your payment responsibility (copay, coinsurance, deductible, etc.) prior to our first appointment. For cash pay/out-of-pocket clients, session fees are $150 for individual counseling and $175 for relationship counseling. A reduced fee may be available upon request depending on availability. I accept debit or credit cards and HSA/FSA cards for payment. If you would like to use your out-of-network (OON) insurance benefits, I provide a monthly invoice (known as a superbill) for you to send to your insurance company for reimbursement. I also use Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have OON benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year. Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and I do not benefit in any way from your participation. I can check your OON benefits to see if Mentaya can help you get reimbursed for counseling.
  • WHEN DO YOU OFFER APPOINTMENTS?
I offer appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Visit my Contact page to submit an inquiry for my current availability.
  • HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?
Please visit my Contact page to schedule an initial phone consultation so we can see if online counseling is a good fit!
  • WHY DO YOU REQUIRE A CONSULT BEFORE SCHEDULING?
I value your time and finances and respect your vulnerability and bravery to seek counseling. A consultation can help see if telehealth or my style of counseling would be a good fit for your goals. Referrals may be provided if it is determined I am not the best clinical fit. An intake appointment will be scheduled if we mutually feel we would work well together.
  • IS ONLINE COUNSELING EFFECTIVE?
Research has found that online counseling is just as effective as in-person counseling. Online counseling is accessible, convenient, and allows me to offer services to all Texas residents. The telehealth platform I use is HIPAA-compliant. Ultimately, it depends on your individual preferences. Telehealth is not recommended if you need higher levels of care or crisis management for severe conditions (such as psychosis or active suicidality) and a referral may be provided if it is not a good fit.
  • WHAT ARE THERAPY SESSIONS LIKE?
The first appointment is an intake where we will discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals and hopes for counseling, and you can get more of a sense of my therapy style. I aim to be conversational and open, rather than asking "checklist" questions about your history and current experiences. What we will work on depends on your goals, which we can use as a roadmap. Above all, I strive to make sure the therapeutic environment is safe, comfortable, and welcoming as you are invited to share your story with me.
  • WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY? WHAT ABOUT AN INITIAL DEPOSIT?
I require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment or a no-show/late cancellation fee may be charged. An initial, non-refundable deposit of $25 is required prior to scheduling an appointment. The deposit will be applied to the remaining balance of your first appointment.
